Crefi is a national youth service set up by the Gezinsbond. Our activities target the stimulation and development of a playful and creative attitude. Key to this are encouraging self development and the playful discovery of one's identity. Our philosophy rests on three pillars: participation, creativity and lifeworld. Participating, actively cooperating, becoming involved, creating commitment: these stimulate social skills and ensure a greater level of satisfaction from this participation. We work on this at different levels: the participants in holidays and courses, the supervisors, the parents and via our volunteers in the work-groups through to our policy making body. Creativity is a means to enjoy yourself artistically, to express your feelings. To this end, we provide children and teenagers with the setting to experiment and gain new experiences. Crefi also wishes to offer children and youth unique opportunities to discover with others new horizons and challenges in which their own lifeworld and those of others meet. Our four major areas are entertainment, youth ateliers, holidays and courses. Entertainment Crefi has a wide offering of creative and expressive packages to facilitate the organisation of entertainment activities. Concretely this means: equipment and material, workshops, scripts and possibly the required supervision. Youth ateliers Crefi groups together approximately 30 youth ateliers in Flanders. Youth ateliers are local youth work initiatives that chiefly focus on developing creativity and artistic skills. Crefi supports their activities and provides for moments to exchange ideas, affordable insurance, training of animators etc. Holidays The third work domain concerns holidays. Crefi organises some 80 holidays each year for children and youth 6 years of age and older. These are primarily theme holidays, often in collaboration with a guest supervisor or at a thematic location. Supervision of these holidays is done by volunteers. Our animators have the ‘animator in youth work’ certificate or have at least followed the course. Courses Crefi organises more than 40 framework and training courses each year, including more than 15 basic courses for ‘animator in youth work’. In addition to the animator courses, other ladder courses are offered such as chief animator, instructor and in-house Crefi holidays course coordinator. Plus there are also many other theme courses that allow animators to expand their background or increase their skills as youth worker.
